As a photographer, I recently captured food artistry at Flavor Hills Myrtle Beach Southern Cuisine, a newly opened restaurant in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This isn’t just any restaurant—it’s a vibrant, black-owned establishment that combines rich Southern flavors, a welcoming atmosphere, and an inspiring story of perseverance.
Flavor Hills is more than just a place to eat; it’s a testament to resilience and determination. Historically, African-American business owners have faced significant challenges securing financial backing and opportunities to thrive in prime locations. Myrtle Beach has a history of such struggles, with stories like that of the Bowens and others who faced barriers when rebuilding after setbacks.
The opening of Flavor Hills in the heart of Myrtle Beach’s entertainment district is a powerful reminder that hard work and perseverance can overcome systemic obstacles. This restaurant is a beacon of progress and success on the oceanfront.
Flavor Hills delivers an unforgettable dining experience rooted in Southern traditions. During my photography session, I was struck by the team’s pride in their food. Every dish reflects their Southern heritage, from perfectly cooked snapper to creamy macaroni and cheese. Their catfish dishes, steeped in deep Southern roots, will surely be crowd-pleasers.
Although they are still fine-tuning their offerings to cater to the local market, the early response has been overwhelmingly positive. Flavor Hills is quickly becoming a go-to spot for locals and visitors to gather with friends and family.
The owners of Flavor Hills bring more than culinary expertise to the table—they bring leadership and vision. With military backgrounds, they focus on developing their staff into leaders who can thrive within and beyond the business. This commitment to growth extends beyond food; it’s about creating opportunities for their team members to build fulfilling lives.
This isn’t their first venture either—the owners also operate another successful location in Raleigh, North Carolina. Their experience and passion are evident in Flavor Hills’ operation.
Flavor Hills isn’t just about food; it’s about community. They’re already planning unique events to bring people together. For example, on Thursday, January 30th, they’ll host “Greek Night,” which will welcome members of the Divine Nine—a historically African-American fraternity and sorority collective—to celebrate culture and connection.
